Professor Wing Kam Liu, Walter P. Murphy Professor and Director of Global Center on Advanced Material Systems and Simulation, Northwestern University, invites applications for multiple open postdoctoral positions within his research group, for two-year renewable appointments.
Candidates are expected to contribute to the ongoing research projects on computational materials design and/or additive manufacturing focusing on predicting process-structure-property-performance relationships. Selected areas of research include: thermal-CFD modeling to capture detailed temperature gradients and fluid flow in the melt pool; mechanistic methods such as 3D cellular automaton (CA) and/or phase field approaches to model grain growth, primary/secondary dendrite arm spacing, and microsegregation; and multiscale mechanistic data science theories such as self-consistent clustering analysis (SCA) to predict mechanical properties.
Outstanding applications will be considered in prolific research areas related to the abovementioned topics. Areas of particular interest include mechanistic data science, multiscale modeling, and integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) approaches in general. Candidates should send a cover letter, a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information for three references.
