Looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow working with Professor Wing Kam Liu of Northwestern University

Details of Position: We invite applications for full-time postdoctoral research associate to explore the interplay between deep/machine learning and computational science and engineering. The application must have excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills. The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team to develop Mechanistic Computational Intelligence (MCI) – from theoretical development to technology transfer, specifically, the emerging engineering software 2.0. An example that we are researching is the convolutional hierarchical deep neural network (C-HIDENN) technology that unifies learning, calibration, inverse design, and solving (e.g., integration into the finite element and finite volume commercial software).

Education Background

  • Theoretical and applied mechanics and mathematics
  • Linear and nonlinear finite element and meshfree methods
  • Programming (Python, C++) and algorithm development
  • Experience with ANSYS and user integration through MAPDL and/or similar experience with 3DS.COM/SIMULIA
  • Scientific machine learning and parallel computing using both CPU and GPU

Minimum Qualifications: PhD or MS with industrial experience in Computational Engineering with machine learning background
